Named for an ancient Middle Eastern city, Byblos is one of the few restaurants in Bangalore that serves up authentic Lebanese food. A two-floor establishment, with tables and chairs as well as booth seating, the restaurant boasts of mellow lighting, pretty interiors and helpful and smiling service. The menu lists a host of traditional fare, with spellings to match! Start with one of their mezze platters, which come with hot and cold items like 'Hommus', 'Muttabal', 'Muhamarrah', 'Falafel', 'Fattouch', 'Spinach Fateyar' and 'cheese/meat Sambusek'. They have some soups and salads on the menu, both veg and non-veg. Hommus is a must-order here and aside from plain Hommus, there are more varieties to choose from: a meat version, 'Chef’s special Byblos Hommus' and 'Beiruty Hommus'. Others to try are the 'Vine Leaves', a dish traditional of the region, 'Labneh (hung curd)', and the eggplant dish, 'Babaghanouj'. The 'Manakeesh', which are pastry sheets baked with toppings, like a thin pizza, come with meat, meat and cheese, but the best of the lot is the 'Zaatar', which has thyme, sumac powder, sesame and olive oil. A range of wraps like 'Kebab Entabli' and 'Kofta Sandwich' are also good choices. From the 'Charcoal Grill Platters section', where the dishes are served with fries, try the 'Arayess', 'Lamb Tikka' or 'Shish Taouk'. Beverages include hot and cold coffees and teas in a range of flavours as well as freshly squeezed juices and milkshakes.
