I keenly observe restaurant interiors and themes. It is a fun pastime for me. The Laughing Llama is just what the doctor asked for when it comes to the millennials and those just stepping out of their teens. The décor makes the restaurant a very happy place. Now, let us get straight to business. I love how places today have your good old 'Peanut Masala'. This place certainly does. You can go the whole nine yards here. Start with soups – the 'Go Manchow' is nice as is the tangy 'Seafood Soup with coconut and lime'. The 'Ek Tuk Salad with Baked Sweet Potatoes', could do with a dressing, but is still nice. Moving on to the starters – 'The Garlic Bread', 'Flying Gobi' and 'Honey I Crisped the Potatoes' are great. For meat eaters, the 'Spice Spice Baby' brings Andhra Spiced Chicken to the table. The 'Naati Beef' packs quite a punch and goes great with beer. Moving on to the more substantial parts – 'The All American Burger' aka the 'Star Spangled Burger' is a huge beef burger and is available in a vegetarian option too. The restaurant also serves up 'Bunny Chow' – something you do not regularly see in the city. You have options that cover Durban and then are taken from different regions as well. Can’t really have a pub with no pizza and so there you have it - the 'Magic Mushroom Pizza', the 'Cheesesome Threesome', the 'Prawn Ghee Roast Pizza' as well as the quintessential 'Pepperoni Pizza'. Laughing Llama serves up pasta in all variations of sauces as well as 'Rice Bowls' with different choices. 'Nasi Goreng' and the 'Donne Biryani' would be my choices. The dessert choices are minimal but will hit the right spots – the 'Madras Coffogato', as well as the 'American Apple Pie', are good bets. The bar will keep you well satiated. If you are looking for lighter options – the shakes are good, particularly the healthy 'Mango Smoothie'.
