Although Bengaluru prefers its share of regional Southern fare, the city has a special fondness for North Indian food. The love is evident in several North Indian restaurants standing proudly against the city skyline, appealing to the diners with its rich creamy amalgam of flavours and textures. ‘Punjabi Raswada’ goes back to the original roots of the cuisine by keeping things simple and classic. The restaurant works well if you don’t want to experiment with all that modern Indian hoopla and stick to the standard North Indian stuff. It’s located in SM Towers, near Cosmopolitan Club in Jayanagar.

Expect to find your regular unbeatable North Indian fare at Punjabi Raswada. The menu is old school with all the classic northern dishes finding a spot. No meat is served here, which is a good news for pure vegetarians. Punjabi Raswada is affordable in bargain too. One can have a feast for very pocket-friendly prices here. Start off the meal with a cool pudina shikanji or a mawa mar ke lassi, if you want something a bit heavier. Nibble alongside on the appetizers like, hara bhara kabab, tandoori aloo, gobi amritsari, mirch malai sheek, kathi spring roll, Makai khas tikki, paneer cheese tikka and Raswada special paneer. The selection of curries is extensive and should be enjoyed with a bread basket or pulao. Relish, paneer takatak, Punjabi chole masala, malai kofta and paneer chutney wala saag.

Dessert section is predictable and classic. Enjoy toothsome sweet dishes like, gajar ka haluwa, Punjabi kulfi, gulab jamoon with ice cream, lachha daar rabdi, gulab jamoon with rabdi and kulfi with rabdi. Similar to its menu, Punjabi Raswada doesn’t experiment with its décor. The interiors are simple and neat with small formal tables dividing the space. Pale brown walls carry the wooden finishes throughout the room. Everything looks pleasing, proper and good-looking. A large life-size truck sits in one corner adding to the cool quotient of the restaurant. This is a typical family fine dining place, often opted for small celebrations or parties.
