If Sector 26 is the fine-dining hub with standalone restaurants, then Sector 35 is where you will find some of Chandigarh’s older hotels. Most of these places have a "party place" tucked in the basement or even on the ground floor. Hangout Lounge and Bar lies within Hotel Metro-35 and is popular with families and youngsters looking to throw a private party. With its cushioned walls, low-seating and coffee tables, i is a casual affair. Thankfully, the basement, which can be quite dingy, has stark white interiors with a pop of plum colour. Styled like a party hall, there is a projection screen, a dance floor and a place for the DJ’s console. The menu is multi-cuisine and since it is meant to be a hangout for everyone, you will find everything from north Indian and Chinese starters and main course to pizzas, sandwiches, kinds of pasta...you get the drift. The bar is well stocked and the cocktail menu lines up the predictable fare. If you can move past the glaring spelling mistakes in the menu, you would like to order ‘Chilly Mushroom’. It lives up to its name and is ideal when paired with a chilled mug of beer. The ‘Golden Fried Fish’, though a tad greasy, was crispy. The main course options are plenty. The ‘Grilled Chicken with Spicy BBQ Sauce’ that we ordered was literally drowned in barbeque sauce. With grilled vegetables and potato mash, it was a good portion for 2 moderately hungry diners. While service was prompt, the presentation could have been better. The greasy, stained menu too needs a fresh print.
