The city has seen a sudden spurt in the number of microbreweries that have been set up. Among those that have found a steady fan following is The Brew Estate that has three branches across Chandigarh and Panchkula. Step inside their Sector 26 outlet and you understand just why this place finds itself in the much-recommended list. The fun vibe of this ‘Cafe by day and pub by might’ is hard to miss. True to its tagline, the place does work well as a cafe during the day and you will often come across boisterous kitty groups and large groups of youngsters during early lunch hours. But there is room for everyone. The fact that The Brew Estate is well spread out certainly goes in its favour. While the brewery – the steely containers and contraptions – are placed at the very heart of the place, the seating is well divided and there’s an open area as well. Depending on the number of people you are with, you can either settle at the island bar or the lounge area or in the alfresco area. Beer is, of course, the in-house speciality and there is always a new flavour to try. The ‘House Brews’ include the 'Belgian Wit' (medium), 'Bavarian Weiss' (light), 'Premium Lager' (medium) and 'Red Ale' (strong). The taster shots help you decide easily. The 'Bavarian Weiss' has a peculiar taste but the 'Premium Lager' will appeal to most palates. The menu goes all out to include Indian, Continental and Pan Asian fare. So, if you are dining in large groups, there is something for everyone. As pricing here is a tad steep for individual dishes, we would recommend choosing the ‘sharing platters’. The 'Charcoal Non-Veg Platter' is a good start and so are the hand-tossed and wood-fired pizzas. The latter gets a thumbs-up for the portions and the perfect crust. Weekends can get pretty full but if you enjoy a loud and lively night out, this is the place.
