Anise, Taj Coromandel’s all day dining option can be a let-down, when judged in the light of its outstanding neighbors - Prego and Golden Dragon. The buffet spread is just about acceptable, but the made-to-order dishes are below par. Anise, however, is best known for late night or early morning Biryani cravings - their 'Gosht Gilli Biryani', is regarded as one of the best in the biryani-crazy Chennai.
Great variety in food, fantastic ambience and most of all their staff provides the best customer experience that I have encountered.. Sagai, the Asst Manager of Anise, tops the lot. His smile, welcoming every customer, his immediate attention to every little detail that contributed to great customer experience is something that keeps me coming back.. The most amazing thing is this..often times he will recognise from my facial expressions that I perhaps didn't find something from the buffet or menu that suited me that day and immediately offer to get the chef to speak to me to cook something that I would like instead..my home away from home.😍 His staff also provides the same service nd smiles , which too many to mention, but Bella, is one who also needs a mention for her great smile and service. Sinddhu, who serves my coffee and masala black tea on weekends remembers my choice from my last vist in Feb 2019. The large variety of food and the chefs behind the them deserves my praise ..they filled both my visual and taste buds .that keeps me returning..too many favourites to mention but it caters to my western and Asian fancies.. Head Executive Chef Sujan takes time from his kitchen to speak to his customers...what an honour..to meet the man behind this restaurant.. I could go on and on about how great this restaurant and the entire Taj Coromandel establishment is .. I chose to come back to Taj C every time I vist Chennai.. because of their personal service that they give to their guest
We 11 of us went for lunch on 21st June to Anise for lunch, as some of my niece and nephews had come from USA, the atmosphere was awesome with wide spread of dishes and choices of desserts, service was at its best, one of my niece is nut allergic so when we informed the restaurant Asst Manager Sagayaraj , he with the chef took personal care of her food, the services of Subhu and Chef Jerry needs to be mentioned, everyone enjoyed Subhu's trade mark Tea. My niece and nephews from USA enjoyed the food and were happy with instant and courteous services of Sagai and his team . my relatives from USA make it a point to have lunch at anise when ever they come to Chennai. We had a wonderful time thanks to the Restaurant Manager for making it happen.
I was thoroughly impressed by our Father's day experience at Anise. I was visiting Chennai from the US and figured I'd take my dad out to some place nice, My dad was celebrating his birthday as well on Father's day and so it called for something extra special. I decided on the Anise restaurant at the Taj. I called ahead and the manager Mr.Sagayaraj Mohan was very courteous. I asked him to have a small Birhtday cake ready for my dad to cut post lunch and he did not disappoint. The entire wait staff and crew made us feel very welcome and took care of all our needs. My parents had special dietary needs and the chef came out in person to assist and prepare food that they loved. The whole experience was just terrific. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough and the whole Taj experience. The birthday cake was excellent as well !!! Thank you Mr.Sagayaraj Mohan and team for creating such a wonderful experience from my parents. We will be back for sure.
The food was good but the place was loud and the ambience was not that great. Decent selection of wines. Service was not that great.
I had been to Anise last week with our family. Usually, we go to Navaratna in Le Royal Meridien. This time we wanted to go to Southern spices in Taj Coromandel. On arrival, it was too noisy & smelly that evening. The family wanted a change and we went to Anise (opposite to Southern Spices) Very disappointing experience I must say. The menu for the main course in the buffet was very sparse for a vegetarian. As soon as we placed the food on the table, two flies sat on the food and it was such a let down right away. The restaurant manager had an arrogant response when I took this to his attention (to this day I wonder why!). I think Mr. Naresh Singh - not sure if I have the name right, gave me an arrogant look, the tone and the words of his response to a customer made me wonder about the kind of culture the organization has. The last time I visited Southern spice for a business meeting, I enjoyed the 'Elaneer payasam' & wanted my family to enjoy it. So I had asked if they'd serve it at Anise & they'd said yes. I ordered for four portions of it. After insisting a few times that we want the 'elaneer payasam' before we started off with the buffet (we eat according to the ayurvedic principles where the sweet/dessert is had before the main course - which helps the digestive process), we never got to have it until just before paying the bill. Again, the Restaurant manager & supervisor gave a lame excuse that they were waiting for us to finish the main course before they served the dessert. Service was pathetic - many times we could see each of the waiter directing the other waiter & going round robin in directing each other to serve our table. To the extent that even the finger bowl was cold when it reached our table! Many a times I had to leave the dining table and walk up to the waiter/supervisor to get their attention. The flies, the arrogance, the delay and the lack of service - Beyond a point, we felt it was completely useless to try addressing these inconveniences to them. We finished eating, paid the bill, stood up and quietly left telling ourselves that we'd never visit this place another time. Next evening, we went to Navaratna in Le Royal Meridien and had an amazing time there.
