Presiding on East Coast Road, in Akkarai is a superb little joint known as ‘Cocktail Bar By Kipling’.

The bar is different than your average conventional watering hole and enjoys the luxury of a beautiful location, which is right on the rooftop. The view is a breath-taking one, with restless sea and a green patch consisting of lush palm trees. In the evening as the sky comes alive with stars, you are treated to a cosy cocoon of trees that flanks the roof on all sides. The roof is left uncovered except for some delicate gazebos and an exposed red brick hut, which serves as the bar. Grab your friends and pick a seat near the parapet so you have an unbarred view of the sea. Wide basins of water fitted with plants and lights are tucked into various corners, adding to the charm. The ambience is casual, romantic and quite intimate.
