- The founders hail from Kottayam, and Kumarakom’s best dishes also some from South Kerala. My Kappa (boiled tapioca) was spiced just right to go with the slightly tart Meen Curry, and I would eat Appam + Stew ad infinitum if I could
- If you can handle a bit of spice, then the iconic Karimeen Pollichathu gets one of its finest renditions in Chennai - slightly crispy skin and cooked right through. I also enjoy Kumarakom’s Syrian Christian staple of Beef Ularthiyathu with flaky Parottas
- Dishes from North Kerala like the Malabar Biryani are way off point, and lamentably, Kumarakom doesn’t serve Kerala Rice during lunch meals
