The restaurant looks like a quaint unfinished cottage in a lush green open garden. The lighting inside is dim and warm, giving the whole place cosy ambience. The only thing providing light in the restaurant are the basic lamps placed all around. The spare ribs that are served here are succulent and dressed with some delectable honey mustard sauce. The steak sandwich has a choice of chicken or beef and should be tried. It is simply served with lettuce, cheese and French fries on the side.
The parking here is a big plus, especially given the location. Wonderful ambiance. Pleasant music and air conditioning. The food was good, but the portion was small...in fact the gravy was more and the rice was less. A little too over priced but a unique experience all the same.
Well, what worked against was just one- location.. Bang opposite one of the largest corporate hospitals in India, it comes with challenges extreme. No parking, no valet, no wait time, no mistakes on that road being busy as it is. But once we enter the half gate the scene changes. Verdant green which now was brown probably because of the scorching sun and the water shortage and a short walk down the path to a recreated Hutte ,very quaint. Step in and in its plainness is its elegance. Set down to order and the menu is extensive. Good balance between veg and non veg. Ordered buffalo wings which was good as starters and then toyed with the main course of a mix of European and Thai. The chicken roast was good ,but a tad too dry. The mixed grill was good but as we don't eat pork replaced with beef which I found was miniscule in portioning. The sauces were different with a mix of mushroom, pepper and onion. Overall a good pass mark. The Thai Red curry prawn was also above standard. The food service was exceptionally fast which made me suspect as to the pre preparedness of the meals. The freshness quotient I feel was a casualty. The overall ambience was good and very comfortable. Service was efficient but could be made to sound a bit more friendly. Overall it was a good experience and worth definitely a seconds.
The food has improved with age and experience but the warmth, ambience and overall whimsical experience remains the same. Parking on premises is a huge plus especially in such a busy area that is usually starved for spaces. The security guard seems a little too proud to emanate much in the way of hospitality but that doesn't really speak for the restaurant in any case.
I was originally hesitating between a 3 and a 4 star rating, but unfortunately dinner ended on a sour note. I tried to pay with my “foreign” credit card but it was twice declined, not because of any problem with my card but, as I was told by the staff, because the restaurant “does not subscribe to payments for foreign cards.” This is not an inexpensive restaurant so we ended up having to empty out most of the cash we had in our two wallets to pay for dinner. If a high-priced restaurant doesn’t accept foreign cards, they should advise (foreign) customers when they arrive so they can make a decision on whether or not to stay. In terms of the food, one main course was quite good (German bratwurst) but very expensive (Rs 630) and the pad thai was much less expensive but not really what we know as pad thai, so a bit of a disappointment. The baked yogurt with dates and honey for dessert was a big hit. If you don’t have an Indian credit card, come with lots of cash, or maybe skip this place all together. We were the only guests for dinner there...
We came for a leisurely meal with friends and family but were quit disappointed . Th standard of the food has gone down & its only the name & ambience that is worth the visit !
What we like best about the restaurants in Chennai is their capability to blend seamlessly with the lush outdoors. You are made to feel a part of the nature which elevates your dining experience entirely. Though at Nungambakkam there are various popular restaurants dealing into fabulous cuisines and trendy interiors but still for a relaxing al fresco dining we suggest you to pick ‘Swiss Hutte’. The place is located just opposite Apollo hospital so it will be very easy to find. You will fall in love with the interiors straight away when you take in its bungalow like interiors. The restaurant resembles a beautiful cottage hidden in the hills of Ooty but no it’s in Chennai and that’s the best part. Steal a temporary reprieve in the garden or opt to sit inside under a mat roof. Faux brick walls are complimented by the stylish wicker furniture. Multi-coloured cushions are thrown on the benches to add a splash of colour. Effect is charming, earthy and relaxing.
You may think that such a traditional backdrop will reflect in the food but let us tell you that Swiss Hutte deals into authentic Continental cuisine. Considering the beautiful ambience and delicious food the restaurant is not very expensive. Just under eleven hundred bucks you can enjoy a lavish dinner with a dinner companion. The chef and owner, Joe Lobo is a warm and charming personality who will attend you personally making the evening all the more interesting with his funny stories. ‘His grandmother’s cowshed’ as he fondly calls his restaurant, is a place designed to satisfy your soul. Commence your evening by ordering yourself a mezze platter which consists hummus & labne with pickle veggies & pita bread, Caesar salad with blue cheese & bacon served with garlic bread and Vietnamese noodle soup.
After tasting the delights of Swiss Hutte you have to sample their main course which we must say is Fabulous. Expect to see spare ribs with honey mustard sauce, German bratwurst with steak sauce, madras chicken country captain with rice, quiche, grilled fish and chips, steak sandwich with French fries, grilled seafood days catch, beef or chicken tenderloin steak, lasagne al forno, veg stroganoff, goa pork vindaloo and penne al freddo. To spoil your sweet tooth with swiss walnut tart or a chocolate brownie. The best part about Swiss Hutte is that it’s not very expensive too.
