Chennai is not only admired for its gorgeous seaside location but for its tremendous food as well. The city enjoys quite a panoramic spot being edged by a stunning coastline that is considered to be one of the prettiest in Asia. Backed by such delightful setting is an array of numerous restaurants focused on exploring the advantages of world cuisine through their delectable food. Chennai is gastronomically rich city and if you visit ‘Up North’, you’ll understand why. Up North is one of Chennai’s favourite dining spots, with its excellent placement and mouth-watering food. The restaurant is housed under The Raintree Hotel in Teynampet area and is greatly favoured by families and gourmets alike, so much so that it’s highly difficult to get a table anytime of the week. You are recommended to book ahead, especially on weekends.
The name Up North hints towards the restaurant’s lovely menu, which takes its patrons on a journey of North India. Getting authentic North Indian food in Chennai is a major feat, something North Indian expats living in the city feels the brunt of. North Indian food in Chennai is often tweaked to suit the palates of the locals but loses much in the term of authenticity. However, with Up North you are in for a surprise. They pay special attention to give their food as much genuineness as possible. Armed with a glass of merlot tuck into their kebabs and such. Try, lagan ke khumb, murgh taaftan tikka, paneer tikka kasoori, gosht chapli kebab, Baluchi gosht seekh, farrali kebab and jalpari pomfret. Get your curry fix with, murgh beliram, ranjeet shahi paneer, nawasheri nalli te champ and duma loo de charrey.
The variety at Up North is quite fantastic. While there are some dishes which are classic, there are more than few you haven’t heard of before. Ask for a keema paratha or cheese naan to dip into your curries. Go for murgh tikka paratha if you want to try something different. With a coconut & rose kheer and rasmalai, say adieu to Up North. You will be leaving with a hefty bill, watch out for that. As we said before, food is not the only thing that makes Up North so amazing. Its rooftop setting takes fine dining to another level. There is even an indoor space but if possible, sit outdoors. The ambience is romantic, elegant and spectacular.
