This is the restaurant that popularised the elaborate court cooking of the Avadh court in Delhi. Dum Pukht is a style of slow cooking in which the dishes cook gently in steam (the Dum) but the menu goes beyond steam cooking. The restaurant has three classics: the minced meat kakori kabab that melts in your mouth, the famous biryani in a sealed pot that has been widely copied, and the delicate yellow Dal Qureshi with its garlic tang. This is the place to go for North Indian haute cuisine.

Insider Tips on Dum Pukht

  • None of the food is light and animal fat is used liberally. Do not go if you are on a diet
  • A recent refit by a Bangkok-based design firm has given the restaurant a sharper look but it still has the air of a formal hotel dining room
  • The best tables are those far away from the loud tinkling of the piano player who plays Hindi film songs

    I visited this restaurant during the restaurant week and was very happy with the visit. They had a great variety and the service was as usual exceptional. The chicken biryani was much better than the mutton Biryani to my utter surprise and the dessert is just exceptional. Must give it a try! I will be back again in the summers.

    Awesome authentic food
    Royal ambience
    kakori kababs, , fish tikka, gilafi seekh, galauti, hara bhara kababs, dudh kababs, kham khatai, goolar kabab, mahi khush kabab, shahi sheekhampur kabab, all are out of this world delicious. The chef knows what he is doing with the spices. The kebabs are melt in your mouth soft. In main course gosht baoli, rogan josh and dal dum pukht are quiet yummy. Badam chicken as the name suggests is made of almond based gravy which is rich in texture. Mughlai cuisine cannot be thought of without its fragrant biryanis. Dum pukht biryani, navratan pulao and gucchi (mushroom) biryani is well cooked and well balanced. The restaurant have more variety in biryani section. The briyanis are served with your chosen raita as the cool raita will balance the spices. Indian breads are ordered to dip in the gravies. Crunchy laccha paratha with numerous layers are fantastic to eat with chicken curry.

    The place is just superb when it comes to food aswell as experience. The staff was very warm and knew the menu in detail....had answers to all queries. We ordered Dum phukt kakori kebab which comes along with sheermal ... both were very authentic and superb in taste. Biryani aswellas paneee awadhi was also upto the mark. Overall a great experience.

    In a place where you are spoilt for choice with every second Restraunt serves Indian food this one stands out because it has Avadi flavour in everything they serve!
    The aroma and the taste of the food is unique to this place although the fate is predominantly Indian!
    The interiors also have a royal Mughal touch to it!
    Nice place !

    As the name suggests, its a very traditional kind of place in terms of ambience!!
    I really live their delicate ambience...
    It is a place to go if you are craving for Avadhi food!! Best avadhi food in town!!
    Also you would be treated very royally the moment you enter this place!!
    I would really recomment dum biryani and kebabs!! Thumbs up for Dum Pukht

    Dum Pukht is quite an expensive dining place but for good reason, cause you will find the best of everything here. The menu travels the entire Indian region, handpicking the best recipes to be included in their well composed menu. As first course nibble on, kham khatai, habibia chops, dudhiya kebab, dum pukht kakori, seekh nilofari, mahi dariya, murgh chandi tikka, shorba shahi pasand, harra kabab Awadhi and jhinga dum Nisha. Save some appetite for the main course which brings to you delicacies like, dum ke aloo, jhinge ka salan, arbi qaliya, murgh handi qorma, guchhi subz-e-zar, shahi nehari and raan-e-dum pukht. Dessert selection is worthy of a king so indulge.
