The food here is a hat tip to traditional Indian cuisines that have been on the hit list of diners for decades. Yet, the presentation and monikers are different, sometimes irreverent and humorous. For instance, Nacho meri Jaan Fatafat are nacho chips that do not take themselves too seriously. Fusion too gets a fillip in the menu as the Kolkata street snack jhalmuri comes to your platter as Thai Jhalmuri Salad. The dish takes generous inspiration from the hugely addictive Som Tam Salad that beckons from every street corner in Thailand. But the jewel in the menu’s crown is the bevvy of Indian dishes that have been given an inventive spin. There’s Teen Mirch Malai Tikka, where the regulation chicken tikka has been enlivened with green, black and white peppercorn. To add zing to the menu, there’s even a Black Miso Chicken Tikka which pays homage to the Japanese Teriyaki and is perfumed with miso. Despite the profusion of culinary fare from all corners of the globe (expect everything from burgers, panini and falafel to bruschetta and pasta), the Indian dishes hold their own. The Nalli Nihari is a clear winner in the main course section where slow-cooked lamb shanks relax in an aromatic gravy, jazzed up with swift jabs of spices.
