The Bento Café takes the Japanese concept of a pre-plated Bento box and fills it with food from across Asia. You can choose your mains from an extensive menu while starches are limited to 'Fried Rice', 'Steamed Rice', 'Udon Noodles' and 'Hakka Noodles', a house 'Som Tam Salad' is part of the deal. Alternatively, you can order off the much bigger a la carte menu, which is what I did. The Som Tam was deftly seasoned but texturally somewhat dull, while a plate of 'Mixed Seafood Volcano Sushi' seemed hastily put together with Tuna, Salmon, Cucumber and Tobiko and was let down by mediocre Sushi Rice. My 'Pork Chilli Bean' was a hearty stew of fatty pork belly but toned down the fermented umami flavour of black beans. The Bento Café is a full-fledged pan Asian eatery with both a la carte and prix-fixe options.
