Kolkata’s Newsmakers In December

Round Up Of The Food Scenario In Kolkata In December

06 Jan, 2017 by Anindya Sundar Basu

If there is one month after the Durga Puja where the Kolkata restaurants are buzzing with activity, it is during Christmas and New Year. The Christmas cakes, Christmas brunches, New Years Eve and then New Year, it is definitely a busy time in the kitchen. Most of the restaurant owners have been looking for this period of the year to have some business pouring in more so, for after the way the restaurant business got affected with the economic turmoil.

Taam, the multi-cuisine restaurant of Priya Cinema hall had closed down some months back and we have now Burnt Garlic open in its place there. The cosy informal place with a very happy chirpy café environment has almost everything on menu. Although the pork tenderloin and pan-fried salmon are strongly recommended; one can find Indian, tandoor and various continental dishes along with tea and coffee on the menu. The bar serves regular alcoholic drinks and scenographer, Swarup Dutta clearly comes up with another winner in the internal design after Jhaal Farezi

After the great success of Hoppipola in Acropolis Mall, the second outlet of the chain opens up in Kolkata in Mani Square Mall. The owner Mr. Anjan Chatterjee feels that food and wine are no longer enough to pull for the Gen Y. So they have introduced more games and that too, in the menu. The menu will have 3 sections – eat, drink and play. The 70 seater restaurant with a separate smoking zone and DJ console area will now definitely attract more crowd from Salt Lake and adjoining areas.

There could not have been a better time perhaps for Ozora to open up in Kolkata than now. Located on the 20th floor of Acropolis Mall, which is soon becoming a food destination as well with Asia Kitchen, Chili's, Barcelos and other brands being present, this place promises to be the next hot spot pubbing address of Kolkata. The 10000 sq ft sky deck with an amazing skyline view of Kolkata has a LED bar and a 110-seater restaurant, which also has a private dining area and some innovative dishes on the menu to tease the taste buds.

The winter menu will continue at most of the places for some time, but with the disappearing act of the winter and the mercury rising almost every other day, it will not be very soon that the regular menu comes back on the table. The party season is almost coming to an end and time for the restaurants also to go back to business as usual.
