Note Worthy Facts About Mumbai’s Food Trail

Eating out has become a huge part of our lives. At one time, folks would wait for the weekend to go out and enjoy a leisurely meal. These days no one really waits for the weekend and you will find restaurants, café and even bars packed to the brim even during the week. Mumbaikars love their food, and a meal out with family or friends has become a regular occurrence. With all this constant eating out, not much attention is given to the kind of food you are eating and as a result of which, a majority of folks have sloppy eating habits and in many cases plenty of health issues.

While vegan and gluten-free dishes are currently a trendy phase, not every restaurant or menu accounts for healthier options, and not many realise that there is more to being healthy than just being a vegan or eliminating certain dishes from your diet. In India, one of the most common illnesses is diabetes and a staggering 7.1% of the adult population is diabetic. It is not always as simple as cutting out sweets from your diet and diabetics need to focus on well-rounded dishes rather than just skipping dessert. One of the most impressive food and health initiatives has been The Diabetic Food trail, which offers diabetics, pre-diabetics and health conscious individuals a culinary experience across 200 restaurants from Mumbai, Delhi, Banglore, Chennai and Pune.

This extremely unique concept, which is in its second year, has tied up with various restaurants across the city to highlight and showcase dishes that are specially catered towards diabetics, ensuring that there is still creativity and innovation on the plate. The emphasis is to give health conscious and particularly diabetic people a choice and to prove that eating healthy does not translate to bland and tasteless food.

The brains behind this entire endeavour, Seema Pinto says “The focus of the second edition is on diet and fitness in effective diabetes management. For a person with diabetes, eating nutritious and well-balanced meals with a regular fitness routine is vital in managing diabetes. This applies to pre-diabetics and the health conscious too”

Apart from the ongoing food trail there are various master-classes, which have chefs demonstrating how to make healthier and diabetic friendly recipes and recently held a very interesting Diabetic Dessert Trail.

Some of the participating restaurants include Sassy Spoon, Ritz Carlton-Bangalore, Farzi Cafe, Zaffran, Copper Chimney, Lemon Leaf, Boveda, Tawak, Hyatt Place and Hyatt Regency-Gurgaon, Fern Hotels, Taj Vivanta Pune, Malaka Spice, GRT Grand, Park Hyatt-Chennai, Radisson Blu in Chennai, Renaissance-Powai, Lavaash by Saby, Little Italy, Samlly’s Restocafe in Bangalore, Woodside Inn, Mirchi & Mime, La Bodega, Smoke House Deli, Faasos, to name a few.
