What would cheer up a non-vegetarian on a particularly dull day when nothing seems right? If you have not guessed it by now, then I am referring to the all-time comfort food – Butter Chicken. Any Butter Chicken lover would be drooling by now because the name is enough, but for all of you who aren’t, I will go one step ahead and try further. It is a creamy and rich concoction of yoghurt, cream and several Indian spices along with succulent chicken pieces that will leave your taste buds delighted. Also, known as Murgh Makhani, you can pair this hearty dish with hot Chapatis, Butter Naan, Garlic Naan or even rice, as the North Indians do.
To your surprise, I would like to add that this delicacy that we all Indians, in fact, the world enjoys and drools over was developed and introduced in Delhi’s famous restaurant Moti Mahal in Daryaganj which now has multiple outlets across the world.
Here is a list of the must-visit restaurants for the best Butter Chicken in the capital.
Moti Mahal – The inventor of Butter Chicken needs no introduction. With several outlets springing across the country, I believe in ‘Old is Gold’, and so the Daryaganj outlet still has my heart. If you are trying butter chicken in Delhi for the first time, this one is highly recommended.
Gulati – Nestled in the famous Pandara Road Market, this almost four-decade-old gem is famous for its rich and creamy Butter Chicken. It is a comfortable fine dine restaurant suitable for a meal with friends or family.
Punjab Grill – Been around for nearly two decades, Punjab Grill is a great place to witness the blend of various North Indian flavours in food. Their Butter Chicken is a great pick for those who like it spicy, and I would pair it with their Garlic Naan.
Rajinder Da Dhaba – Not the poshest of places, but this little stall grew into multiple outlets and has taken over the market which is known by their name. They are famous for the various North Indian delicacies they have on offer, but their Butter Chicken seals the deal. You might have to stand, eat in your car or order takeaway but trust me it is worth the effort.
Minar – Do not get disheartened by the pale orange colour of their Butter Chicken, Minar is endeared for their Butter Chicken by Delhites for decades. It is well spiced, not too spicy and you can surely taste the butter in every bite.
