As clichéd as it might sound, Valentine’s Day is all about red-coloured décor, chocolate hearts and everything else that most people find cheesy. Whether you consider it to be a beautiful day to celebrate love or a convenient ploy and basically a Hallmark Card holiday, there is no denying that it is a reason to celebrate.
For people deeply in love or even for those that could not care less but like the idea of celebrating the day, there is a lot to choose from. Restaurants across the city take great advantage of this day and create special menus and exotic treats. Here are a few of our favourite places that have decided to do something special to mark the day.
The Sassy Spoon – This restaurant is romantic any day of the week with their adorable décor and beautiful food. While they are celebrating Valentine’s Day with special additions to the menu, the really interesting part is their custom-made desserts. Heart-shaped macaroons, desserts with hugs and kisses and, most importantly, a secret admirer gifting service, where you can send gifts from their desserts on a prepaid and pre-ordered basis. They offer midnight deliveries on request as well.
The Bao Haus Co. – It is not just the restaurants; even smaller delivery outlets are caught up with the Valentine’s Day fever. To celebrate, the boys behind The Bao Haus Co. have created a special duck duo baos for the occasion. Made with confit duck legs and compressed pineapple with red chilli, tarragon and vodka, these are a first-of-its-kind gourmet baos and are created to celebrate this holiday.
The Sahara Star hotel – If you really want to celebrate in style, then you can opt for the Private Dining Room at the Sahara Star Hotel, which is amidst India’s largest marine aquarium. Flowers, champagne, chocolates and a delectable four-course meal are all part of it, but the highlight is that you are surrounded on three sides by the aquarium. Of course, this is an expensive proposition, but they will also throw in a chauffeured pick-up and drop. The other restaurants at the hotel – for e.g. E.A.S.T, Namak, Earth Plate and Mabruk – also have special menus to mark the occasion.
Shiro – This restaurant is known for their wonderful Asian cuisine and, this year, Shiro is going all out to celebrate cupid’s day. They have quite a dinner planned for their guests, but the magic starts with a chauffeured driven sedan that will be your pick-up and drop home to and from the restaurant. A romantic dinner along with champagne, as well as a special bag full of treats that include foot and hair spas along with other goodies, makes this a great date night option on the Valentine weekend.
Eddies Bistro – While every restaurant is trying to outdo themselves with romantic gestures and multiple coursed meals, Eddies Bistro has adopted an Anti-Valentine’s Day theme, which is really for singles that do not care about the holiday or have no one to celebrate it with. You can purchase what they call a ‘bottomless glass’ for Rs 1,500 and get unlimited refills for three hours at any time through the day. They have a special menu for French fries to go with their ‘Fries before Guys’ motto, along with sliders and a whole bunch of greasy tasty snacks that is really the opposite of any pretty plated food that one would typically expect at Valentine’s Day. If you are looking for something fun and relaxed, then this is the place for you.
