7 Places in Bengaluru Serving Home-Style Pizzas

Melted cheese, loaded with meat (read: cholesterol), vegetables (to make up for the cholesterol), herbs, and some more cheese – pizzas can be devious. But then again, for most, it is a favourite fast food. From small hole-in-the-wall places serving home-style yummy pizzas to upmarket restaurants putting together some of the most decadent flavours – there is no dearth of options when it comes to pizzas. So go ahead and pick from one of our favourites.

Onesta in Koramangala is one of the most popular pizzas haunts in the area. And what makes them really cool is that they serve single-serving pizzas. And the fact that the vegetarian section has at least 22 varieties is even better! You can definitely eat more than one here. Some of our favourites are the pesto and red pepper with mozzarella cheese, the cheese stuffed crust margherita, red grapes with balsamic reduction, and the chocolate and banana pizza topped with strawberries when they are in season. From the non-vegetarian section, the bacon and eggs pizzas, the wasabi mayo chicken, and the mayo tuna are pretty neat creations.

Toit on 100 Feet Road (Indiranagar) might be a beer drinker’s haven, but what is a good beer without an even better pizza? The margherita here is one of the most popular ones for sure. Even the Toit Special (topped with all sorts of meat) is almost like manna for meat eaters. Also try the Goan sausage pizza, which has a lovely bite to it. Even the Tartufo pizza – thin crust, topped with burnt garlic and mushroom, and a slight drizzle of truffle oil – is worth checking out.

And since we are on beer with pizza, let us not forget The Biere Club. They may not have a full page dedicated to it, but what comes out of the kitchen is pretty good. Try the four-cheese pizza, where you can decide on the cheeses. However, the one with prawn, squid, and anchovies is delightful as well. For something different, try the chilli ground lamb mince pizza, served with shredded ginger, and mint yoghurt – it is very Mediterranean, and wholesome.

Ever tried a duck pizza? Check out the one at The Fatty Bao. It is served on a crisp tortilla base with roasted and shredded duck meat, plum sauce, spicy mayonnaise, and Japanese chilli seasoning. It is full of flavour, and quite different from what you might have had so far – as long as you like duck, that is.

Amid all the partying and music, do not forget to order one at Fenny’s Lounge and Kitchen (Koramangala). And they have some curious ones as well. For example, did you think there could be a spicy fruit and nut pizza? Fenny’s makes one, and it has got apple, pineapple, green chilli, cashews, and mozzarella cheese. For something more mainstream, try the beef chilli and corn pizza. Well, it is not that mainstream because it has also got baked beans on top, and it is delicious.

The pizzas at Toscano in UB City are traditional, and most of them are quite a hit among the regulars at the restaurant. Try the one with blue cheese (if you do not mind strong cheeses). It also comes with fresh mozzarella, caramelised onions, jalapeños, grilled mushrooms, and romaine leaves. For meat eaters, the one with Parma ham, mozzarella, and rucola leaves is simple and yet full of flavour. The salmon pesto, with smoked salmon, basil pesto, mozzarella, and capers is a personal favourite.

Chez Mariannick in Whitefield might not always be in the limelight, but they do make good wood-fired pizzas, even though the combinations are simple and do not border on being experimental. The margherita here is topped with tomatoes, mozzarella and emmental cheese. One of the usual favourites is the La Bergere, with tomatoes, goat cheese, and onion jam. The La Suprema with bacon, tomatoes, pepperoni and mushrooms is another popular pizza. And then there is the La Jambon, with tomatoes, ham, mozzarella, and emmental. As you can see, cheese rules here!
