9 of Pune’s Headiest Coffee-Infused Desserts

30 Mar, 2016 by Late. Mrunmayi Ainapure

There is something about the heady aroma of freshly brewed coffee that feels even better, when you catch a whiff of it wafting out of a dessert. Chocolate and coffee have worked beautifully in cakes since the Victorian times, and this trend is clearly still all the rage – if these coffee-based sweet treats are anything to go by.

The espresso panna cotta at Prabhat Road’s Le Plaisir Patisserie & Bistro, for instance, is the perfect substitute for a shot of caffeine. The wobbly Italian pudding here is redolent with the magical fragrance of Chikmagalur-sourced coffee. Adorned with a crunchy ring of caramelised white chocolate crumbs and a little hazelnut sword, it has a bittersweet aftertaste – exactly what you would expect from a well-made coffee.

Indulgence in Koregaon Park whips a lovely mocha mousse – silken-smooth and light as air, it melts in the mouth quickly, but the essence of coffee lingers on your palate long after. The créme brulée at Euriska has a crackly burnt caramel layer that gently opens up into a smooth, creamy custard infused with hints of strong coffee that are subtle, but enough to get you wired!

The charming French café La Bouchee D’or on Dhole Patil Road bakes dainty mini-éclairs – pillowy, classic choux pastry filled with sweet cream, and topped with coffee icing; really, what could even go wrong? Similarly, you have mocha cream oozing out of the coffee caramel profiteroles at Forennte – utterly exquisite.

Dario’s is as popular for its coffee, as for its superlative Italian food, and is known to rustle the stimulating cuppa. It is no wonder then, that the establishment also prepares a fine, achingly moist coffee sponge cake. If you are looking for something more substantial, The Waffles Hut in Viman Nagar has fluffy, crispy waffles topped with sprinkles of coffee powder on luscious whipped cream – rich and filling.

The mocha cupcake at Shivaji Nagar’s LSD - Love Sugar & Dough is airy and spongy and comes capped with a dollop of buttercream imbued with coffee, which is all kinds of sweet manna. Or then, Minus 18 Degrees in Baner bakes these delicious coffee macarons, if you are looking for bite-sized coffee-flavoured goodies.
