Sitting down on a sidewalk SomTam along a busy Bangkok Street, Nasi Goreng in Indonesia, popping into a yakitori stand in Tokyo or Pho in Vietnam, eating Satay in Malaysia, we all associate street food with culture when we travel, don’t we? Not only are they inexpensive but next best to home food. I tend to scout the night markets, street stalls and hawker centres whenever I travel in South East Asia and was very happy to experience all of that in Delhi.
Well, Honk is pretty much the only restaurant in Delhi for honest South East Asian Enthused Street food in a fine dining setting, and satisfactorily the food, air and service all consortium to make a stopover here a captivating experience. The kitchen team clearly puts efforts with love, creating epicurean South East Asian street pleasures successively from Chicken and Chorizo Dumplings, Hainese Chicken Rice, Singapore Style Pork Ribs to Rendang and Massaman Curry. Korean food has not been given its due credit in the capital but Honk more than makes up for it with its Kimchi Fried Rice with Edamame and Crispy Chorizo and I could see it being ordered on more than one table. The Live Counters of Robatayaki, Tempura and Sushi signify the importance of farm-to-table incline that Pullman New Delhi Aerocity is aiming to bring out and is unified with the Omakase idea of Japanese dining. Desserts range from exciting oriental delights to the familiar Coconut Sorbet. For a classic South East Asian invigorating sweet ending go for the Ginger Cake with Candied Cumquats and Milk Sauce which is a sheer bliss! A worthy selection of beverages concludes an impressive meal. A good idea is also to drink any of their assorted infused teas along with your meal.
All in all, there is a sheer variety of street food and who would not love a place where you can graze from several street food dishes that are also slightly reinvented and served in a fine dining setting? On offer is something for every single palate in the capital, and a bonus – Dilli is populated by people who love their food!
