The food scenario in the city has evolved tremendously. We now have gourmet meals, international cuisines, celebrity chefs and a great emphasis on plating and presentation. While evolution is a good thing, some things remain the same. One of these would be our fundamental need for value-for-money meals. While people are dropping ridiculous amounts of money on swirls, foams and tasting menus, there is a large breed that is still simple in their needs and wants some good, wholesome value-for-money meals. Most of these people are buffet buffs. The city is dotted with various buffet options, each one giving you your money’s worth. However, we dug a little deep into this ocean of buffets and found you some of the very best the city has to offer.
Global Fusion – This buffet restaurant is a runaway hit. From the time they launched up until today, Global Fusion is a very popular choice for families who want to dine out. The concept is that there is an array of starters and appetizers for you to choose from – which come served hot to your table – and a buffet spread for their main course, which is self-service. The food is a mix of Asian dishes, mostly Indian, Chinese and Japanese.
Barbeque Nation – The excitement of barbecuing your food at your table was too much for diners to stay away from. The specialty at this restaurant is an unlimited selection of barbecued meats and vegetables, along with other appetizers, served to your table with various dipping sauces. For the main course and dessert, there is a buffet set up. The food is Indian, particularly North Indian, and delicious!
Made in Punjab – Without a doubt, this restaurant is one of the very best for North Indian and Punjabi food. Tastefully done, their menu boasts of plenty of innovative and traditional dishes to choose from. The highlight, however, is their lunch buffet spread that is worth every penny you spend on it. Expect salads, starters, kababs, tandoori dishes, mains, dessert and, overall, very good food.
Mainland China – A buffet that serves only Chinese food is sure to be a success, and the one at Mainland China is just that. They have a buffet set up for lunch guests and it is tremendously popular. You can fill yourself with their Chinese starters, mains and desserts, and you will probably be eating more from the buffet than you would if you ordered off the menu. There are nine branches of this popular restaurant all across the city, which is a testament to how popular the food is.
Sigree Global Grill – While most restaurants have a buffet option during lunch or dinner, the best kind of buffets are at restaurants that specialise in them. The Sigree Global Grill chain of restaurants is one such buffet genius. There is no fixed cuisine. The dishes are a mix of different cuisines, from kababs to dips, nachos, tikkas, samosas, tarts, fried rice and so on. It is almost like they have something for everyone, and it is a great way to sample more than just one type of food. It is affordable, doesn’t burn a hole in your pocket, and is a great place for a meal out.
The Yellow Chilli – With Chef Sanjeev Kapoor’s menu and recipes, the success of this restaurant is no great mystery. The food is a mix of recipes inspired from all over, and the inspiration extends to their buffet selections. The buffet is available for lunch at both their outlets in Powai and Thane, and is perfectly priced as well as very filling. The dishes are mostly Indian but there are a few popular international ones as well, which add variety and make for a very satisfying meal.
