Celebrate World Sushi Day In Mumbai

World Sushi Day on June 18 is a gentle reminder to eat more Sushi and enjoy it. In Japan, sushi is more than a delicious meal - it is a revered art form. This Japanese delicacy sushi, made using vinegared rice to which salt and sugar have been added, combined with other ingredients – seafood or vegetables, is fast gaining popularity in India and across Mumbai too. It is almost a comfort food for many. No longer does one have to step into 5-star hotels to enjoy a good sushi. Several standalone restaurants and even take away places offer a variety of sushi. From a Maguro Nigri to a Hamachi or Maki Rolls, one can expect to find them all in Mumbai.



Sushi Pizza Slice

Normal is boring! For a change, this World Sushi Day, be adventurous and experience sushi with a twist. 'Chef Paul Kinny' of Shizusan presents this Asian delicacy in a unique avatar as Sushi Pizza and yet keeps the integrity of the flavours intact.


At Rs 255 per slice, which is a fairly large one, the vegetarian options include - Edamame, Avocado, Asparagus and Philly Cheese. With a dash of Wasabi Mayo, this one is sure to set your taste buds tingling. The second vegetarian option is even more delightful. Fruity to the core, the chef makes use of seasonal fruits along with jackfruit and mango. Alluring to look at this sushi pizza slice, is a treat you cannot miss.


Non-vegetarian options at Shizusan include Prawns and Edamame with delicate flavours wowing your palate in the form of a sushi pizza. The Tuna, Salmon and Jalapenos, is a bit more robust and spicy. These are priced at Rs 375 per slice. Aesthetically presented in a new form, the core of a sushi remains unbroken and the innovation is appealing all the way. Given the quality and freshness of the ingredients, this is value-for-money.


Still craving a traditional Sushi? Head to Yuuka at St. Regis for their vast selection. The Tokyo style soft shell Crab Maki is a must-have to celebrate the occasion. Else make your way to Shiro at Worli, and tuck into the shitake sushi or the Spicy Prawn And Avocado Maki.


And, if sitting at home and enjoying a sushi and sipping a sake is what you prefer, order from Sushi and More at Tardeo or Juhu. The Asparagus Tempura Roll, is a must-try for vegetarians while seafood lovers will relish the spicy Salmon Roll.



Sushi 

If you are in the mood to have some fun with sushi, head straight to Hello Guppy at BKC for their Sushi-Eating Competition'. Participants will be served a platter of 22 pieces of different types of sushi, which they have to finish in 1 minute. This platter includes 6 pieces of Tekka Maki, authentic Tuna Roll wrapped in nori and 4 pieces each of Mango Tuna Roll, inside-out spicy tuna, tanuki fritters, sesame seeds and mango; Battera Sushi, pressed sushi with salmon and tuna; and Prawn Tempura Roll, inside-out prawn tempura, cucumber and sesame seeds. The winner will get a complimentary Sunday Brunch meal for 2(with alcohol). The 'Sushi-Eating Challenge' commences at 07:00 pm on June 18 and a participation fee of Rs. 500 will be charged.


So, go ahead and celebrate World Sushi Day, the way you like, but make sure you enjoy your sushi and have lots of fun.
