city not found
The short-lived showers are gone, and we are back at the mercy of the infamous Chennai summer. Lament not, for we have scouted your Knight in a ...umm..waffle armor! Yes, there is no greater anodyne to muggy summer days than some ice cream. Here are the five best places in Chennai for you to scoop some:
Amadora, Nungambakkam & ECR
This homemade artisanal ice cream parlor is the crown jewel of the city's ice cream scene. The original location is a cute little place in the leafy Khadar Nawaz Khan road with jigsaw chairs, dishing out premium ice cream made on the spot. Pair their excellent (and immendly indulgent) underbaked cake with five bean vanilla or the Belgian chocolate ice cream.
Ibaco Ice cream, branches all over the city
The story of Arun Ice-cream is a classic rags-to-riches tale of luck and perseverance. Hatsun Agro’s Ibaco Ice cream parlours are the brand’s premium offerings and arguably, the city’s favorite. They have a solid selection of flavours that rivals the likes of Baskin Robbins, however it is their ice cream cakes which sell out fastest.
Creamy Inn, Shanthi Colony, Anna Nagar
Creamy Inn is a proud old school Softy establishment. An Anna Nagar landmark, it offers countless flavours and toppings on the classic softies. I love their litchi sundae which comes with a topping of preserved litchi and crunchy caramel.
Pabrai Fresh and Naturelle, Anna Nagar & Besant Nagar
This Kolkata based ice cream chain specializes in fruit based ice creams. Made using the real fruit, comparisons with the Naturals chain are inevitable. However, Pabrai’s does a great job of its own with flavours such as tender coconut, paan and jackfruit.
Creamstone, Anna Nagar and Alwarpet
Cold stone ice cream seems to be all the rage these days, with fans enjoying the theatrics as much as the mish mash of ice cream, cakes, chocolates, nuts and everything else you can think of! Cream Stone, a Hyderabad based brand is one of the biggest names in the game and its two stores remain packed till the wee hours.
