Iftar Special Gourmet Affair At Jyran, Sofitel Mumbai BKC

19 May, 2018 by Mini Ribeiro

Iftar is one of the religious observances of Ramadan and is often done as a community, with people gathering to break their fast together right after Maghrib, during the Holy month of Ramzan. To give their friends and brethren company, most Mumbaikars have got initiated into the habit of eating Ramzan food. Rich, meat-based delicacies and sweets, are generally eaten as part of this meal.

Haleem, a stew made of meat, wheat, and lentils, Nalli Nihari, melt in the mouth mutton curry cooked with lamb shanks in a special flavourful masala, Phirni, made from coarsely ground rice, milk, mawa and kewra or rose drops and Malpuas made of maida, ghee, dry fruits, egg and sugar, are typical delicacies that are eaten.

Mohammad Ali Road Food Festival

A trip to Mohammad Ali Road during Ramzan is de rigueur for most Mumbai foodies. However, one need not travel all the way to South Mumbai anymore to enjoy these treats, as 'Chef Shadab Ahmed Qureshi' of Jyran, Sofitel Mumbai BKC, has curated a special menu for dinner daily till June 15, 2018, which offers a wide range of lip-smacking Iftar delicacies and recreates that experience.

Expect to savour Tawa Kheema Pav, Khau Gali Murgh Tikka, Roti Pe Bhuni Boti, Sheer Kurma, Malpuas, and a lot more. This is the fourth consecutive year that the hotel is organising this Ramzan special.

The broad spectrum of flavours in these dishes tantalises your taste buds. The food is authentic and the ingredients used of good quality. The Roti Pe Bhuni Roti or lamb cooked on the griddle, flavoured with red chillies and served on Indian bread is a treat. The lamb served taco-style on a mini roti, is well-cooked and melt-in-the-mouth. The slow-cooked Khichda with lamb and lentils is well-spiced and undoubtedly the highlight of this spread.

There may be less choice for vegetarians undoubtedly, as the menu is meat-intensive, but there are a sufficient amount of dishes to choose from. The Veg Cutlet and Subz Seekh Roll are worth-a-try and extremely well-made.

Relish your mains but save a place for the luscious desserts. Gorge on the wide selection of desserts ranging from Sheer Korma and Phirni to Kulfi Falooda and Malpua-Rabdi. The mini Malpua, laced in syrup and topped with creamy Rabdi is decadent and leaves you craving for more.

So, this Ramzan, do not head to Mohammed Ali Road if you cannot but instead enjoy that experience right here at Jyran.
