The Best Pasta In Mumbai And Where To Eat It

16 Jul, 2018 by Roxanne Bamboat

Very few dishes have the ability to suit different occasions.  Some are either elegant and are best left for celebratory meals and some are wholesome plates of comfort that envelope you like a warm embrace. Not many can act as both depending on the occasion quite like a pasta does.

There are different pasta dishes and each one can fit any occasion. A robust carbonara works well as a family meal, a simple Napolitana works well as a quick fix rustled up after a long days work and an elegant plate of ravioli works well as a part of a  romantic meal. Either way, a plate of pasta can work its magic and we've picked 6 places we absolutely adore for this Italian treat.

Gustoso - This is the best Italian restaurants in Kemps Corner and probably one of the best in South Mumbai. It's tucked away underneath the flyover but Gustoso has a charming ambience and an envious menu. The best pasta here is their signature 'Scialatielli Pesciosa' which is a fettucini like pasta though slightly shorter cooked with king prawns, clams and calamari in a white wine and cherry tomato sauce. If you prefer a meatless or fishless option then the 'Linguine Limone E Tartufo' which is a creamy linguini with a lemon and Italian truffle based sauce.

Romanos J W Marriot Sahar - It's unfair to pick a single restaurant at a hotel that has such a strong F&B system but we would be remiss if we didn't admit that Romano's is far superior to anything else at the hotel and even in the area overall. The restaurant has a massive fan following and it's no surprise because the dishes are delectable. From their pasta menu, we pick the 'Capelli D' Angelo Con Aragosta' which is angel hair pasta ( really thin pasta strands ) with lobster and scallop bisque. It's one of their signature dishes as is the 'Risotto Al Funghi' their mushroom risotto with truffle oil, wild mushrooms and porchini.

The Wine Rack - We love this restaurant for its beautiful bar, an abundance of wine and it's overall casual yet chic style. It's not an Italian restaurant but it's eclectic menu with dishes that are inspired global has some incredible pasta options and it's just too good not to include in this roundup. You can, of course, make your own pasta but the 'chargrilled tiger prawns with champagne fettuccini' or the 'Goan pork sausage, bhut jolokia and pecorino risotto' will blow your taste buds away!

Celini  Grand Hyatt - The big fat Italian style Saturday Brunch is incredibly popular here because families like to indulge over lazy meals and when you can pick from a buffet spread as well as pizza and pasta of the menu then it's even more attractive. So much to enjoy here but from their pasta selection, it's the 'shrimp bisque and cognac risotto' that gets our vote, though the humble 'Spaghetti Aglio Olio' is also fantastically made.

Botticino Trident BKC - With many new restaurants mushrooming all over Bandra Kurla Complex, competition is tough but restaurants like Celini don't need to worry. This incredible Italian restaurant is considered to be one of the very best the city has to offer and its shining reputation has only grown brighter over the years. The 'Duck Tagliatelle' with onion soubis, shaved black truffles and onion chips is a stellar dish and one of their popular ones. The 'Butternut Squash Tortellini' is another fabulous pick with parmesan fondue, candied orange and morels.

Mia Cucina - Powai has so many restaurants to choose from but for a hearty soul-satisfying plate of pasta you need to visit Mia Cucina. It's one of the few Italian stand-alone restaurants that have maintained their quality and loyal customer base. The 'Tagliatelle E Pesto' is a beautiful basil pesto-based pasta served with either your choice of meat or vegetables. The 'Lasagne Tricolore' is a baked pasta with spinach, artichoke, cherry tomatoes and oodles of cheese in a parmesan sauce.
