The Diabetic Food Trail Mumbai

For a person with diabetes, eating nutritious and well-balanced meals with a regular fitness routine, is vital in managing the disease. The focus of this second edition of the Diabetic Food Trail, is on the importance of diet and fitness in effective diabetes management and thus, chefs from 200 leading restaurants across Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune, who have partnered this initiative, have created special diabetic-friendly menus for diabetics to enjoy gourmet but healthy food. Celebrated chefs are thus showcasing their culinary talent by demonstrating the ease of cooking gourmet meals which are diabetic-friendly and can easily be prepared at home. Participating restaurants, with the help of nutritionists from across the country, have curated special diabetic-friendly menus which are engineered to follow a specific calorific meter. Some of the restaurant favourites have also been included in these menus and these dishes have been recreated to suit the requirements of diabetics. Spinach lentil and wild rice soup, pan seared Norwegian salmon served with garlic spinach string beans and garlic lemon sauce, asparagus fondue with ragi crackers, are among some of the special dishes created by Chef Parimal Sawant at Meluha The Fern, Powai.

Patrons need to enter any of these restaurants and merely ask for the special menus.  Each dish comes with its own nutritional chart. In Mumbai, 34 restaurants including Farzi Café, Grandmama’s café, The Yellow Chilli, Meluha The Fern, The Sassy Spoon, Mirchi and Mime, Smoke House Deli, Diva Maharashtracha, are some of the participating restaurants.

Kick started with a Diabetic Master class in Mumbai, by Seema Pinto, co-founder, The Diabetic Food Trail – the session aimed at helping individuals understand ingredients, nutritional values, read packaging labels and learn exciting recipes.

For those who miss their sugar dose, the Diabetic Food Trail has also introduced a special ‘Healthy Dessert Trail’ which allow diabetic patrons to give in to their guilty pleasures and enjoy their favourite desserts. The desserts, as part of this trail do not use any processed sugars. Diabetics need not worry about eating out any longer, as chefs have ensured, diabetic-friendly food can be healthy and varied too.
