‘Whisky’ refers to whiskies distilled in Scotland, Canada, Australia, Japan and Europe, where as ‘Whiskey’ refers to the spirit distilled in America and Ireland. There are brands in plenty producing scotch whisky and bourbon whiskey across the world, in all possible ranges. However, when we talk about premium scotch, one brand easily pops into the minds of most, is Glenfiddich. Premium scotch whiskey, made from primarily three ingredients − barley, yeast and water, Glenfiddich has been around for more than a century and with every passing age, developing into one of the most preferred brand in the world.
Glenfiddich added one important member in the range of rare and prestigious whiskies in India. Glenfiddich Excellence 26 Year Old is the first single malt from the Speyside distiller, matured exclusively in American oak bourbon casks for a minimum of 26 years. In the maturation process of a whisky, the type of the cask plays an important role, along with the length of time for maturation. The quality and the lineage of the cask imparts the complex flavours to the whisky. Two of the main sources of the casks are Europe and America. The American casks play a major role for scotch distillers; as the casks impart the flavours of vanilla honey and spice to the single malt, while the European casks are primarily used to mature a variety of different products such as sherry to port and some wines that adds a wide palate of flavours.
Glenfiddich 26, matured in American oak bourbon casks, marks the first bourbon cask release from Glenfiddich, with rich fruity flavours and well-controlled spice from long American cask maturation. Aged for 26 years, slightly more than the average scotch whiskies, the rich golden colour with a vibrant taste balanced between dry tannin and a soft brown sugar vanilla sweetness, is definitely going to be a preferred choice for most of the connoisseurs.
As Struan Grant Ralph global brand ambassador, Glenfiddich says, “Adding this new expression is a testament of our pioneering spirit to produce the most incredible malts in the world. This unique, floral and intensely flavoured whisky reflects our commitment to produce the best dram in the valley.”
Since William Grant built the distillery along with his children in 1886 and the first whisky was produced in 1887, Glenfiddich (local word for Valley of the deer) has travelled a long way in producing some of the best whiskies with unrivalled care and attention to the entire process. Glenfiddich 26 is definitely another star-studded addition in the lineage.
