Kolkata has finally geared up to welcome the big food brands and hopefully, the trend will continue and we will get to see some national, international as well as local promising brands trying their hands successfully in shaping the foodscape of the city. So, let us have a look at top 5 restaurants which have come up in the last 6 months in Kolkata and have already become the talk of the town.
Location: Fort Knox, Camac Street
We had spoken about The Fatty Bao, opening its door to Kolkata in November and with much expectation, it has. As anticipated, The Fatty Bao has already won the hearts of everyone who has been there to dine. A Japanese gastropub, the menu is contemporary Japanese with interesting bao like the Char Siu Bao, Steak Bao, Crab Bao and more, mouth-watering Dumplings, Noodle bowls, Sushis, Sashimis and the much spoken about PB&J, which is their signature Pork Belly Dish and a must-have. The desserts and the drinks are equally enticing. If you have not tried The Fatty Bao yet, now is the time.
Location: Park Street
The latest pub to watch out for, is Hard Rock Cafe or HRC, as it is popularly known as. Located at the action-packed Park Street Junction, the pub packs a punch with its cool memorabilia wall, top-grade food and some fabulous drinks to go with. The Nachos and Flat Bread are brilliant options for sharing plates. If you are a pork lover, then the Smoked Ribs are a must-try. The Burgers are a mouthful and completely a jumble of flavours. You will get your classic drinks as well as some eclectic ones like Hurricane and Purple Haze. So, get together with your friend and party hard at Hard Rock Cafe.
If you are looking for mind-boggling food with a great location and some outdoor seating, this is the perfect spot. The food is bold, the food is mysterious, and the food is sophisticated. With a talented 'Chef Auroni' at its helm, they are creating some serious news waves in the city. Mutton And Pork Ragu, Chingri Chorizo And Grits, Quinoa, Asparagus and Truffle Risotto, Sunday Chicken or Mutton Roast to name a few are precisely designed to win the hearts of Kolkatans. The desserts are a completely different story. Flapjacks With Nolen Gur, Hazelnut Mousse with Salted Caramel and French Biscuits and the likes are there to win your hearts and make sure that you revisit for more.
Location: Southern Avenue
Enough with the big guns and the brand names, here is a small local cafe with a lot of promise. The ambience is pleasant and the menu is nothing but comforting. Regular coffee, some tea along with an interesting combination of food is what you can expect here. This place is making its name in a big way for the variety of dishes in pork, even the simple ones like Pulled Pork and Cheese Loaded Fries. Bourbon Glazed Chicken Wings, Pork Belly in a variety of flavours, Bacon Wrapped Prawns, some heavy duty Sandwiches and Burgers, some Fusion Pizzas, kinds of Pasta, Rice Bowl and much more is there on the offer. They even have the famous South African Bunny Chow In Pork. As of now, the food is creating news. With time, we will see whether the place manages to remain consistent with the quality of the food. We are nothing but only hopeful.
Location: Middleton Row, Park Street Area
The location is brilliant but the challenge lies in opening an oriental restaurant at Park Street which is lined with the legendary Chinese outlets. It definitely requires a lot of guts to do that plus the strength of a good culinary team. What differentiates them is that they are not offering the same old same old menu. Generous salads like Spicy Beef Salad, Juicy Minced Chicken Salad, blissful Dimsums, Baos, Ramen Bowls, Curries and so much more is there in the menu. The taste and the quality of the food are definitely noteworthy and we wish the best for this restaurant.
