Top 5 Salads that you must try in Namma Bengaluru

30 Aug, 2019 by Kruthika Dixit Kandpal

PC: Toast & Tonic

A salad is not just a meal as some salads are so craftily and tastefully made that it should be considered art. It is probably the only thing you can enjoy eating and not really feel guilty about it. They are healthy, refreshing, colourful, flavourful and ideal to beat the heat and cool off. I have done all the hard work and picked out 5 of my favourites in the city and they include everything from peanuts and pomelo to sunflower seeds and coconut.

Smoked Chicken Salad at Toast & Tonic, Richmond Road, Central Bengaluru

With seasonal produce and fresh ingredients as their hero, needless to say, the salads here have a loyal fan following of their own. The Pickled Apricots, Pumpkin Seeds and Smoked Cheese Salad is our numero uno choice, followed by the Smoked Chicken Salad as Toast & Tonic improvises on this basic salad with crunchy vegetables and succulent pieces of chicken with a lovely smokey flavour.

Bean Sprout And Crispy Quinoa With Brown Rice Flakes at Smoke House Deli, Indiranagar, East Bengaluru

While there is plenty of comfort food to be found on their menu, I love that they balance things out with an extensive salad menu too. The Watermelon Feta and Arugula Salad is a favourite throughout the year, but when summer/monsoon rolls around, I find my loyalties shifting to the Bean Sprout And Crispy Quinoa With Brown Rice Flakes.

Cubbon Park Salad at The Permit Room, Richmond Town, Central Bengaluru

The Permit Room is well-known for their South Indian fusion food, but their salads give you a sakkat Bengaluru feel with every bite. High on taste and nostalgia, Cubbon Park Salad brings together all that you have eaten from street vendors across the city, it is made of crushed cucumbers, baby corn, peanuts, bhel puri muri, tomato, lettuce and a chilli-lime dressing. Inspired by the food carts at Cubbon Park, it is worth-a-try at least for the throwback childhood experience on the plate.

Thai DIY Paan Salad at Enerjuvate Studio And Cafe, Koramangala, South Bengaluru

This cafe has been wowing us with its unconventional menu of healthy goodies from Momosas (a momo-samosa hybrid) to Jowar Wraps. The Salads here are a great hit too! At Enerjuvate Studio And Cafe, you can have your salad and have fun making it too. An improvisation on the Indian paan, the Thai DIY Paan is in the form of wraps made of lettuce leaves. To add the Thai twist, the fillings consist of lime wedges, tangy dip, chillies, ginger, onions, sprouts, coconut flakes and toasted peanuts.

Mandalay Laphet Thoke at Burma Burma, Indiranagar, Bengaluru

This tea leaf salad at Burma Burma tastes as fancy as it sounds. A refreshing leafy salad with slightly pickled and fermented tea leaves, tomatoes, lettuce and other crunchy beans along with a garnish of garlic, roasted nuts and toasted sesame seeds will create a burst of flavours in your mouth.
