It is that time of the year again. The second set of Navratras of the year are set to usher in the festive season. This switchover also brings in customary Navratra specials in menus across fine-diners and restaurants in the city. Even for those who do not fast, but choose to skip non-vegetarian meals during the period, this becomes an opportune time to treat one's taste-buds to some exciting vegetarian and satvik (sans onion and garlic) fare. Here is a look at what is on offer in the city.
Dera, the restaurant housed in Taj Chandigarh, is known for its robust curries and North Indian dishes. It is now offering special Satvik meals for Navratra. Themed around Varanasi, dishes have been curated by a visiting chef from Taj Nadesar Palace in Varanasi. The Vrat Ka Khaana has been rustled up using quintessential Satvik ingredients like Sabudana, Kuttu ka Atta, Samak Chawal et al.
The thali is indeed quite a popular offering in restaurants during Navratras. It is a wholesome meal for those breaking their fast and packs in the essential dishes. Looking to make it a gourmet spread, Serenade offers a Thali prepared in an exclusive vegetarian kitchen and curated by 'Chef DR Manohar' and his team.
Urban Cafe housed in Hyatt Regency Chandigarh is offering the quintessential Navratra Thali for both lunch and dinner.
The thali brings in dishes like Paneer Makhani, Aloo/Paneer Pakoda, Lauki Ki Sabzi, Plain Chaach, Sago Papad and the likes. The thali is on offer for both for lunch and dinner.
The special menu for Navratras rolled out in Social on October 10 and will be available till October 18. Through these 9 days, guests can look forward to a selection of Satvik food on offer apart from the regular menu.
They are calling it Social IX-C ki Thali comprising of Satvik dishes prepared without onion and garlic.
The specials include Sabudana Vada with Coconut Chutney, Aloo Tiki Chaat with Pineapple, Tamarind and Mint Chutney, Kuttu Paneer Pakodas, Navratri Khichdi, Homemade Banana Ice Cream with Kuttu Crumble and Kulfi with Fresh Fruit. Apart from the thali, the Navratra menu is available for lunch as well as during dinner hours.

While most fine-diners and casual restaurants restrict their Navratra specials to just thali, Gopal’s outlets across the city are also offering Navratra special namkeen and sweets. There is a special line-up of Potato Crisps and Sabudana delights as well. The Sweet Lassi is a must-have too.
