Diners are always cribbing about the lack of choices when it comes to international cuisines in the city. This time, there is nothing to complain about. Turkish Airlines is celebrating 10 years of operations in the country and has smartly tied up with the Four Seasons Hotel in Mumbai to present a special week long Turkish Pop Up restaurant.
Pop up restaurants are not a new phenomenon, but it is only when there is a certain amount of exclusivity does it get interesting. If you pay close attention, Turkish cuisine is not a popular one in Mumbai and nor do many menus feature Turkish dishes, leave alone having Turkish restaurants. It always seems to get clumped into the Middle Eastern/ Mediterranean section of menus and then again just one or two popular dishes as part of the mezze or baklava which also has its own versions in various countries.
In an effort to keep things as traditional and Turkish as possible, the chefs that are toiling away from the special menu have been flown in from the Four Seasons Sultanahmet in Istanbul and most of the dishes have had ingredients specially flown in from Turkey to keep the meal as authentic as possible.
The menu is an á la carte selection including Turkish pide, handmade manti which are Turkish dumplings stuffed with spiced lamb ragout, yogurt kababs, chicken beyti which is garlic and sage chicken served with almond rice, an 8 hour cooked boneless lamb shank, plenty of mezze, and of course lot of traditional Turkish desserts along with the popular baklava, Turkish delight and Turkish coffee.
The Turkish Pop Up is available for both lunch and dinner. It is being held all week till the 30th of April and 1st of May 2016 where on both these days they will also have an extravagant Turkish brunch to make you feel you are indulging on a lazy weekend in Istanbul. If you are always looking for new and exciting places to dine at, then this one comes highly recommended.
