When it comes to going out, Bengaluru’s rooftop spaces go home with extra credit.
Dining under the stars has always held a special place in our hearts. And in Bengaluru, it is not even a distant dream. With bars and restaurants, making room for open-to-the-sky spaces, one can turn a simple evening out with friends into something absolutely delightful.
Take for example a meal at The Fatty Bao in Indiranagar. Quirky lights, equally matched with colourful furniture, transform this place in the evenings. From a date, to a celebration, to even a quiet dinner alone – this is surely one of our favourite open-air spots.
Even the non-descript rooftop at My Bar at Koramangala is on my list of favourites. There is nothing posh about the place. Most of the seating is in cement, and you get the feeling that you are on the deck of a ship (probably due to the way it is done up). But once it is evening, and the lights are on – the party has begun.
Skyye Bar, one of the more upmarket lounge bars in the city, has one of the best rooftop views in town. Perched atop UB City on Vittal Mallya Road, the sprawling space is where you ought to bring a jacket to keep the wind from giving you the chills. The ambience is half the job done – and as you sit and sip on beer or cocktails, you will literally find yourself refreshed.
A view from the 15th floor can be breath-taking, and that is what Bang at the Ritz Carlton on Residency Road offers, apart from a luxurious setting to party on weekends. Apart from having an absolutely impressive list of spirits (it’s the Ritz Carlton after all), their range of signature cocktails definitely deserves some credit.
While of heights, High Ultra Lounge, on the rooftop of World Trade Centre in Malleswaram is exactly that – high! In fact, its location is its USP, apart from their delightful cocktails. Get a table on the roof, and you will have to juggle your focus between what is on your table and the view.
Another understated place to hang out on weekends is On The Edge at Barton Centre on MG Road. It is a smallish place, offers a great view of MG Road, and decent food and drinks. Given its prices, it is quite a popular haunt on certain days of the week.
Fenny’s Lounge & Kitchen in Koramangala is one happy place, what with its Goa-like setting, and partially open to the sky décor. It is hard to not stay cheerful as one walks into the place. The music is usually upbeat, and familiar for a change. The menu lets you go choose between good old beer and pizza, and their cocktail pitchers, paired with appetizers. It is definitely one of the best places to go to on a Wednesday.
And then there is Brewsky that has been coming up in a lot of our lists. Apart from their craft beers and pub food, their ambience is one of the most talked about aspects. With two outlets (one of Sarjapur Road, and the other in JP Nagar), their open-to-the-sky format works wonders for us.
