Japanese Cuisine

A lot go on, on a Japanese platter. You will notice the small details that comes together to form one big picture. The amount of skills and precision which goes into making Japanese food is stunning. They have serious knife skills that will make any amateur chef sweat in fear, but the outcome is insanely delicious. Goa is a melting pot of cultures where people from all walks of life come to mingle, bringing with them their own unique cultures and gastronomy. Demand for global cuisine is immense in Goa so you would notice a tremendous amount of variety up for grabs, including the very delicious Japanese cuisine. Surprisingly Goa still has to wake up to this version of Oriental cuisine, but what they lack in variety they make up for it through flavour, which brings us to ‘Yaki Zushi’.

Down the slopes of Sangolda in Penha de Franca lies Goa’s only Japanese restaurant Yaki Zushi, which keeps an eclectic menu including the very marvellous Japanese cuisine. The food they cook is spectacular and very much authentic so it’s no surprise that it’s so popular with the locals. Besides Japanese they offer Thai, Chinese and even Goan cuisines to keep matters interesting. Begin your evening with a miso soup, fish in chilli oyster, chicken gyoza, caviche, sushi rolls, Hunan wonton soup, tofu in chilli basil, prawn in salt & pepper, yaki-tori, chilli pork, Thai sweet chilli chicken, tom yum soup, potato in honey sesame and satay kai. For your second course feast on, prawn teppanyaki, Thai green curry, chicken in chilli cilantro sauce, fish teppanyaki, Thai red curry, prawn in devil sauce, fish in sweet & sour sauce and kung pao chicken. Throw in some fried rice or noodles to make it a complete meal.

Spoil your sweet tooth with miso date pancake, darsan with vanilla ice-cream, short bread cake and tub tim grob. Coming to the interiors, Yaki Zushi displays a pretty mystical and casual décor consisting mainly of red and black. Set in an old Goan home the restaurant forays into different sections of the house, each one acting as an individual dining room. The décor is bright, striking, eye-catching and chic to look at. There is a sense of peace here that you will find tranquil and serene. Find yourself some solace at their Buddha bar by indulging in their fab bar menu. Yaki Zushi is affordable too.
