Kaafila has been quite a hit, especially with the Salt Lake crowd and shoppers at the City Centre I, where it is located. The 70-seater restaurant is designed to replicate an Afghan shack – plush yet rustic bedecked with lanterns and Persian carpets, even a few guns hang on the coarse walls. The spread, pitched as Afghani food is quite akin to what we understand as North Western Frontier cuisine - a range of kababs, rich curries and breads. A must try number is the Afghani murgh ke kalmi – meaty chunks of chicken on bones laced with a cream and cheese marinade and finished in a tandoor. Or, try the gosht Sikandari biryani here – generously topped with birista, it is a shift from the usual Kolkata-style biryani. Meat is in focus here, but they also have a fantastic assortment of vegetarian dishes. Try their signature yellow dal paired with the cheese and paneer stuffed khurmi naan. Plus, there is alcohol.
