Machaan earned the distinction of being the city’s first themed restaurant when it opened its doors at the Mani Square Mall in 2008. The interiors of this sprawling jungle-themed restaurant complete with the eponymous Machaan, huge banyan trees and animals too, designed by Bollywood art director Nitish Roy, have always been its chief draw. Dim lights and tribal music completes the experience. The food is quintessentially North Indian. They have an evolving menu and original favourites such as Bharatpur ka chaat and aloo ki topi are no longer on it. In fact, they had started off with a more imaginative menu, presently they offer a fine spread, but somewhat unremarkable. Nonetheless, you could try their signature Dhuandhar Lal Murgh Tikka on skewers that makes a dramatic entry on a sizzler plate. The dal chaunka and murgh tikka lababdar are good picks for mains. For desserts there are apple jalebis with rabri and malai kulfi.
