Oceanic is the all-day dining or coffee shop of The Peerless Inn. What sets it apart from a lot of other coffee shops is their ambience which is light and airy. Towards the buffet counter is a very large aquarium and the other end of the restaurant has large glass windows overlooking a garden giving it a very natural setting. The menu is a concoction of European, Oriental and Indian cuisine, although you will not find too many options from each. However, they do serve a pretty lavish buffet of the choicest of dishes and ingredients. Seafood is definitely prevalent in their lunch and dinner buffet.Their grilled fish with exotic vegetables in a must try from the European section.
Till recent past, I was a regular visitor to the Oceanic at Peerless, Kolkata. But after a stint of about 4-5 years when I visited last month with a high hope for a Sunday brunch, I got seriously upset. The reception, the hospitality, the quality of food, the spread of the housekeeping were not up to the standard of this restaurant which we used to get 4-5 years back.
I had a couple of meals and breakfast here during my stay at The Peerless Inn earlier this month. The breakfast and buffet lunch comprised of manifold lip-smacking delicacies. Quality of service 10 on 10.
Had the buffet lunch with friends. The spread was disappointing though the service was great. The taste was mixed. The desserts were good. The ambience is cool with the lovely glass wall lookout on one side with nice arrangement of greens outside it.
Had visited this place for dinner and preferred to have their buffet over A- la carte. The buffet wasn’t as widespread as expected, especially for their offered price. The senior captains are pretty helpful and amiable too. Would like to convey my regards especially to Mr. Sudipto (captain) for all the help and extra- services offered. The ambience of the restaurant is good and are with very comfortable seating arrangements. Now, coming to the food, it was a big disappointment as far as the food’s quality was concerned. We were lucky to have Mr Sudipto around as he himself had offered to arrange a few dishes for us, which were not part of the buffet spread. Mr Sudipto had specially offered us Chicken clear soup for our starters, as we didn’t like the potato soup of the buffet spread. The soup was nice and warm with fair pieces of chicken and vegetables. The Veg and Chicken Tikka, kept separate from the rest of the self-service buffet that was monitored by someone to continuously heat it in the pan, was the only item we found to be cold. Therefore, the actual purpose wasn’t served. The main course was good, but since we don’t prefer Basa fish in any of the fish dishes, once again Mr Sudipto had offered us something else as an alternative, i.e. Bhetki fish in hot garlic sauce, which was freshly prepared and served to us. The deserts weren’t delicious at all and very limited in comparison to the other buffet special restaurants. Undoubtedly, the service provided was generous but the dining experience would have been better with finer quality and quantity of the food. Overall, it was a nice experience.
This is on the first floor of peerless inn hotel. This is the venue of the complementary breakfast offered by the hotel.the breakfast is predominantly vegetarian with eggs thrown in. The spread is more than ample and sumptuous. From the standard idly dosa vada to change natural etc. Varied varieties of juices and kisses. Fruits are available as well as sweets ofcourse, being Kolkata. Coffee is made to order as per requirement. Service quick and pleasant. A enjoyable experience
