Dashanzi, a restaurant named after the art district of Beijing in place of the Spanish restaurant Arola, is a welcome change at JW Marriott Mumbai, Juhu. Serving progressive modern Chinese and Japanese cuisine along with an electrifying bar, the food and bar menu here are diverse. The contemporary décor with a classic touch, exudes warmth and sophistication. The interactive sushi and sashimi bar is undoubtedly a highlight. Napa hakusai – this vegetarian sushi got my vote as it is a fine example of innovation. The sushi was rolled in the Chinese cabbage instead of the customary nori sheet. The blanched cabbage with a subtle tart and sweet flavour, further made it stand apart. Barbecued lamb chops with braised radish and wild mushroom rice hot pot with porcini butter and truffles, are definitely worth a try. The theatrics around the dessert freezing chocolate balloon at one’s table is a sight to behold, as it is done with finesse and flourish. The service is exemplary and the personalised attention from the chef, enhances the dining experience.
