When it comes to authentic and affordable Chinese food in India, one gradually comes to think of Mainland China. The brand has been around for decades and started its culinary journey in the early 90’s under the mantle of Anjan Chatterjee. The first flagship restaurant was opened in Sakinaka area in Mumbai and since then the brand has grown into various outlets all over the country. What started as a tiny eatery created by a bunch of foodies, grew into something spectacular. Although all outlets of Mainland China are just as good, Powai’s branch is more accessible and charming. Its corporate central location of City Park, Near D Mart in Powai, makes it highly favoured by the office goers. During lunch time the restaurant is always busy as many neighbouring regulars come here to enjoy a delicious oriental lunch with their team.
Mainland China’s name is synonymous to good authentic Chinese food. You are assured to get high quality Chinese fare for reasonable prices. The portions are huge so keep that in mind while ordering. Its recommended to make their first course entirely of dim sums but if you want a more eclectic start then stick to, cottage cheese & edamame cakes, crisp tender rooster with fresh chillies, Asian potato croquettes, sliced fish with spicy Sichuan crumble, crab soup with crispy noodles, pan grilled crab cakes, lettuce wraps with sautéed water chestnuts, yue yang barbequed fish, prawn poppers with kaffir lime salt and roast duck in chilli plum sauce. Main course is a delectable selection of, fiery sapo vegetables in a clay pot, Cantonese soya steamed fish fillet, chicken with spicy shrimps sauce, roast lamb in mahlak sauce, vegetables dumplings in chilli soya and king prawns hubei.
You will be pleasantly surprised to see a swollen dessert menu brimming with delicacies like, honey noodles with almond flakes, rambutan with ice cream, hot chocolate rolls with vanilla ice cream, orange crème brulee, mango pudding and steamed coconut dumplings with honey butter sauce. Designed in a quintessential Mainland China manner, the restaurant is formally and traditionally crafted. A pleasing wide room brightly lit by Chinese lanterns and a group of golden terracotta warriors guarding on your left zealously, makes up for the charming space at Mainland China. Dining style is kept formal and there is plenty of space to sit and feast.
