Indian food has gone under quite a transformation in the past few decades and several restaurants have taken upon themselves to give this cuisine a new lease of life with innovative twists but some establishments still believe in going old school and are still practicing the age old form of Indian cuisine. They have given the fusion foods or western techniques a miss and have chosen what they know best. One restaurant has always stuck with old-fashioned ways of Indian cuisine and has earned quite a reputation for being one of the best Indian restaurants in the country. We are talking about ‘Peshawri’, an iconic fine dining eatery under the helm of ITC Maratha, Mumbai. Peshawri is a legendary restaurant and is often the first choice to dine for curry seeking Mumbaikars.
It is a hush-hush assumption that Peshawri is another branch of Delhi’s famous Bukhara restaurant but to say this aloud is a sacrilege. The menu of Peshawri is a lot similar to the menu of Bukhara and features the same brilliant popular dishes from North Indian and Mughlai provinces. If you crave for Bukhara’s spectacular food then Peshawri can be a close second-best option. Similar to Bukhara, rice has never been part of the Peshawri menu. Kick-start the evening with a smorgasbord of appetizers. Pair your drink with, tandoori jhinga, paneer tikka, murgh malai kabab, kadak seekh, tandoori aloo, barrah kabab, marrel fish tikka, bharwan paneer and tandoori lobster. Take a naan peshawri or tandoori naan to polish off the curries. Definitely order, dal Bukhara, murgh makhani, paneer khurchan, murgh khurchan and paneer makhani. Food is excellent and worth every bit of their hefty bill.
Following this classic Indian fare is Peshawri’s selection of traditional Indian desserts. Feast like a king on rich sweets like, phirni, rasmalai, gulab jamun and kulfi. Peshawri is styled pretty much the same way as Bukhara. The interiors will remind you distinctly of Bukhara. Thick dark wooden logs upholds coarse stonewalls. Room is dimly lit and furnished with comfortable orange-colored upholstery. Walls are draped with rich vintage wall hangings and pieces of antique utensils are spread across the room adding an authentic old-fashioned Indian flavour. Bring a foreign guest here to show what true Indian hospitality is all about. Peshawri is one of the finest fine dining restaurants in Mumbai.
