Not everyone finds the idea of knocking back a couple of glasses of chilled beer to be the epitome of joy, but Effingut, with its infectiously cheerful ambience and warm service, can warm the cockles of even the most hard-boiled teetotaller’s heart. Soak in the pub-like interiors featuring quirky sign boards and a mix of high seating at the bar and cosy booths with comfortable couches as you guzzle some light and fruity Sorachi Ace Saison, or the German Hefeweizen (a sweetish brew with notes of banana and cloves). Their Milk Stout is rich and decadent, and their cinnamon and ginger ales are as smooth as smooth can be. The food is pretty ‘effin gut’ as well, be it the basil chilli prawns, the lamb ragout which has succulent and well-cooked chunks of lamb meat plunged in an aromatic onion gravy, or the chicken schnitzel served with buttered rice, creamy mashed potatoes and veggies. Portions are generous and preparations are meticulous.
