Safely ranked as one of the city’s poshest party locations, this basement club is generally full of the who’s who of town, mingling in the dark, trippily-lit confines of the spacious lounge – its dance floor is tucked away around a DJ’s console, near a shimmering bar. Heavyset bouncers keep track of activities as the crowd moves to House or Electronica (generally), with a dash of Hip-Hop and some very rare Bollywood thrown in. The establishment’s special shooters-for-two are dramatically flamed – the ‘blaze’ of absinthe, Baileys, crème de menthe and vodka are particularly effective. There is a long list of classic cocktails and the tall drinks are quite potent, each mixing four spirits with varying mixers. The caiprioska and mojito comes in flavours like tangerine, passion fruit, lychee, peach and berry, and the bar menu hosts some absolutely haute alcohol brands – and yes, the pricing is accordingly steep. For on-the-go munchies to keep the party going, sample their crispy calamari with caper aioli, warm pickled mushrooms with oregano, mezze, or crumb-fried pickled chillis with marinated feta. The lamb meat balls with spiced tomato sauce, lemon basil prawns and cheesy quesadillas are also good orders.
