If there is one thing that Pune’s diverse culinary landscape is still bereft of, it is a wide choice of sushi restaurants catering to fans of the dainty Japanese delicacy. Having said that, Panash is a good place to nurse your sushi cravings. They offer three types – nigiri (different varieties of fresh fish, shrimp, crabstick, radish or avocado nestled below lightly-flavoured vinegar rice), maki (crisp rice and nori sheet rolls packed with crunchy veggies and a thin outer layer of tempura crumbles) and sashimi. Among the appetisers, my vote goes to the skewered grilled tenderloin served with peanut sauce and cucumber relish. Mains feature a variety of Malaysian and Thai curries in spot-on flavours, but try the lotus leaf chicken (steamed and flavoured with brandy) or the twice-cooked pork in chilli bean sauce with wax gourd, accompanied with some aromatic pineapple fried rice.
