Masala Canteen is a fresh place with bright blue upholstered sofas, white painted iron chairs and white walls. It has bright yellow painted doors and the colours are used subtly. On one long wall, there is a golden coloured mental structure in a geometric design while on the other wall are three large wooden blocks arranged together as if a puzzle has just been put together. It is a newly opened place which began in August 2017. They use golden cutlery and serve in bell metal utensils like in Indian homes some 50 years ago. However, the dinner and side plates are ceramic and that is where the mismatch happens. The food here has real innovative names and the names take you by surprise. It leaves you wondering what you will get. Some different soups here include Drum Stick Rasam and Murgh aur Narangi Ka Shorba. However, the Shorba was on the oily side. There is Kokum Ras as a beverage. They have an all day Dining Menu which has Bohri Keema Pao and Bhuna Keema Samosa on the menu. For starters try the Do Rukha Khumb if you like mushrooms. Non-vegetarians should try the Kebab-e-Khas, which is stuffed chicken kebabs served on skewers in a small clay pot with burning coal inside. The theatric display is fun. You could also go for Byculla Market Mutton Kebab. For the main course, the Tadkewali Dahi Bhindi is a good option along with Langarwali Dal, which is basically Maa Ki Dal. The tasty dal is a must try. It will transport you to another world. The Bajra & Mong Dal Khichi will surprise you as it is so tasty. For non-vegetarians there is Amritsari Dhaba Murgh or you can go for Sindhi Gosht or even Malabari Fish curry if you like fish. Try the Lagan Ka Murg Biryani to finish up.
