There are times when you tend to be a little jaded while dining out – after a while, everything seems to be the same – the food, the drink the ambience. And then out of the blue, once in a while, something comes along that makes you sit up and smile. And that is what happened to me at The Fixx. The strange neon-lit stuck-out tongue over the entrance not considered – the space is great to hang out, particularly on a weekday (when I went). We took up a cosy cubicle on the first floor, right next to the bar. Service was spot on, menus appearing, suggestions being made, orders were taken and us clinking glasses in a matter of few minutes. If you want to begin with a salad, the 'Panzanella' is quite nice. I love eggs made well and so the 'Shakshuka' is also on the cards for me. As is the 'Grilled Squid, with macerated chilli and oil. Vegetarians can try the 'Soppin Palya Crostini' or the 'Corn Tartlets'. The 'Usali' tossed with ginger, coconut and chilli, is also brilliant. Not often do you see quail on the menu and so the 'Quail kebab' here just might take you to the bylanes of Shivajinagar. For the mains, you should definitely do the 'Shepherd’s Pie'. Rarely, if ever, will you find a good one in a pub that is not Indianized, flavourful and has a lovely proportion of mashed potatoes to meat. The Asian curries are there for all those who care for it. And of course, if like most folks, you want to end on a biryani, the 'Malnad Biryani' is definitely one to try.
