Among the hotels lining the NH-21 in Zirakpur is the Regenta Almeida hotel. It has become quite popular for its banqueting services and also large gatherings. Saffron is the hotel’s multi-cuisine restaurant. Housed at the lobby level, it boasts of a sizeable number of covers. The ambience is like a most modern restaurant with high ceilings and scattered seating. There is a colourful lounge-like seating near the bar on one end. As far as the food goes, the place is more popular for its buffet service rather than a la carte. The buffet, though lavish, walks on predictable lines and evenings get fairly crowded. This is not a place if you are looking for a quiet meal with someone. The menu offers the usual line-up of salads, appetisers, soups and shorbas et al. While the Mughlai menu takes sizeable space, followed by Oriental, there are a few handpicked Italian and Continental meals as well. The service was quick even on a busy night but our server had a hard time making recommendations. We settled for assorted vegetables in a sweet and sour sauce paired with 'Hakka Noodles'. The portions were a tad disappointing though the flavours were on expected lines. So in hindsight, it would make sense to opt for the buffet here.
