It may be housed in the furthest end of Sector 26’s dining street, but that has not diminished the popularity of TGI Fridays. The American chain, known for its steaks, grills and Tex Mex cuisine, is always bustling with energy through the week. The interiors are vibrant and quite similar to TGIF outlets housed elsewhere in the country. But what truly goes in Chandigarh’s favour is the generous space and one of the longest bars in town, which makes it a not so ideal place for cosy conversations. Even though the seating is well spread out, it is designed to accommodate larger groups. The fiery red semi-circular sofas and roundtables are a good pick. The menu here packs in quintessential TGIF fare – chicken wings, pork ribs, heavy duty burgers, fajitas, quesadillas, steaks et al. If you like your portions to be generous, especially when it comes to meats, this is the place for you. On our visit recently, we dived straight into the main course and ordered ‘Jack Daniel’s Chicken’, ‘Sizzling Cottage Cheese Fajita’ and ‘Chicken Tortilla Soup’. The chicken was well done and the sauce with it was sumptuous to the T. We give them brownie points for the generous side of vegetables. The 'Fajitas' – a serving of 4 – is perfect for 2, though the dressing for the 'Grilled Cottage Cheese' lacked punch and had us reaching for the bottle of Tobasco. Even though we were really full, the temptation of dessert was hard to resist. Sadly, the ‘Sizzling Brownie Obsession’ was not moist and chocolaty as the menu had described it as. Instead, it felt like it had spent far too much time in the oven. Perhaps, next time, we could try something else.
