  • German style doner kababs will fill you up and while DKB seems to have put some thought into offerings such as churros and dainty steaks – their prosaic execution is hardly distinguished
  • DKB stays true to its bistro proposition – a cheery, youthful space with large portions and few frills. My picks are the basic doner kababs and Suleimani chai
  • There is free and fast Wifi on offer; reserve a table in the outdoor section on a pleasant day and there is a cat or two at the back of the restaurant, near the loo

For a city that has taken so kindly to shawarmas (rotisseries at Malayali-run Arabic joints rarely spin dry), its close cousin, the doner kababs seem to have had a tough run. Doner Castle in Anna Nagar shut shop some years ago (obscured due to the metro construction mess) and we did not see much else up until Doner Kebab Bistro popped on a quiet Nungambakkam bylane.
