Aura, an upscale café located in the affluent Jubilee Hills neighbourhood, invites promises to make patrons ‘feel good’. The carefully selected food menu at Aura is teeming with comfort food from around the globe. While global cuisine restaurants are not new to the city, Aura’s food selection still manages to be both distinctive and impressive. Instead of the usual 'Mushroom Cappuccino', Aura surprises you with a creamy and sweetish 'Butternut Squash Cappuccino' topped with coconut air. In a similar vein, 'Aura’s Signature Salad' is goat cheese mouse served with beetroot and walnut leaves. The dish that drew me to Aura was 'Banh Mi' – a Vietnamese sandwich made with French Baguette that is slowly becoming a global sensation and made the BBC ponder if it is the world’s best sandwich. Aura’s interpretation was great – the combination of the 'Soy flavoured Beef' and the satisfyingly 'Chewy Baguette with Pickled Carrots and Veggies' is quite irresistible. However, it was missing the pate and I wish there was an option to pair this with pork. Except for the pizzas, which were rather mediocre, everything else that I ordered at Aura impressed. Heavier chomps here include burgers, lamb shank, and stew. I opted for the 'Tenderloin Stew' with potato, mushroom, and peas. It is the kind of warm and fuzzy dish that you can keep coming back for. Classic comfort food served with aplomb. Café Aura also has a gourmet retail store attached to it that sells many of the imported gourmet products used in Aura and more – 'Corn-fed Chicken imported from Spain', 'Salmon Fillet from the Atlantic', and a 'whole host of Cold cuts, Cheese, Mushrooms, and Vegetables'.
