This is the first outlet of Buddha Bites (it has four other outlets now) launched in 2014. This 27-seater occupies the ground floor of an old, stately home in a quiet residential lane off Gariahat; the pretty interiors, done in red and gold, replicate a Buddhist monastery complete with prayer wheels, a cluster of brass bells on the ceiling, typical Buddhist frescoes, cane furniture and a statue of the Buddha right at the entrance. The food is a contemporary take on old Calcutta Chinese with dishes such as barbeque spare ribs, General Tao chicken, roast chilli pork and Peking duck on the menu. The slightly fiery dragon chicken and the chicken-wrapped prawns come especially recommended.
