The energy inside Pumproom is thrumming, with upbeat music, retro-kitsch décor, disco lights and a vibrant crowd. The manchow chicken soup is a tasty, hot start to your meal; the nibbles list brings you veggie spring rolls, Shanghai potatoes, Mexican French fries, Mongolian paneer, chicken satay and butterfly tempura prawns. Items in their Thai section go quite well with drinks, like the Kaeng khiao wan (Thai green curry) and Kaeng daeng wan (the red variant) – both are silky and spicily exotic, pairing well with a heap of steamed rice. There is also a choice of Asian veggies or dumplings, chicken, fish or prawns in sauces including hot garlic, Sichuan and chilli oyster, to eat with pot rice or pan-fried noodles. A classic list of cocktails allows you to choose from the usual suspects – cosmpolitan, tequila sunrise, mojito, bloody mary, martini, whisky sour, gimlet, etc., are all available here, besides liquor to your choosing.
